Why does it flucuate so much? once the dollar was worth more, now its worth less, why?

If I were to trade USD/GBR on forex market, what sort of hedge would I use to reduce my level of risk? Ie would I buy other currencies at the same time, or use forward contracts / future contracts or even options. Which is the most common and effective.

How do I calculate it? My broker says per pip. I use 100:1 leverage. The currency moves up 5 pips. I gain ? The currency loses 5 pips. I lose ? Please explain.

Hi, most brits know that we’d hate to change our currency to the Euro and have protested it for many years.
But here’s a simple idea and I’m just wondering whether it would work.
Why don’t we just change to the Euro currency but call Euro’s in the UK english pounds. This currency would be the same as the Euro so it could be used in the EU.
All I can see is advantages, anybody see what could be wrong with this?

Is it possible to exchange Japanese Yen Currency in Hongkong to HongKong Dollars? Is that Normal? Can I have it exchanged in the airport?
I don’t know too much about the FOREX system but do work in an industry with foreign currencies so I watch rates Daily and notice trends in currencies going up and down so figrued I may try to get into FOREX< thinking about learning more about it.
My question is this, when I place an order I’m betting on a currency going up or down. How long can I hold an order for? Is it like shorting a stock where you have til day end or maybe 3 days or can you hold it for as long as you want. If you can hold as long as you want I dont see how you could possibly not make money as every currency is going to go down adn bcak up and then back down.
Also, why do they let you leverage youself 100%?
If your allowed to hold a position as long as you want it makes it seem to easy, even if you take a hit eventually the currency will come back to at least what you paid if not higher to make a profit. WIth stocks the broker can call back meaning you have to sell back reguardless of what the price is, can this happen with FOREX?

This is so scary. I wanted to go on vacation to Europe, but this currency recesion conversion crap is really stinky!
