I think that Britain should adopt the Euro as the standard currency. If they want to be part of the European community then they need to follow what other countries have done.
Keep your pound. Once we all go to the same monetary system, we are doomed. It marks the beginning of the end in the bible.
Britain is an EU country. I would not give up any national currency. It’s a loss of independence.
no they shouldn’t do that
I certainly hope your question was addressed only to citizens of the U.K. When I consider the abysmal, horrifying ignorance of their own country’s policies that are displayed by the U.S. citizens on this website, it is almost frightening to contemplate what they would do with a question like THIS one!
As an American, I think this is an issue that the Brits should figure out for themselves. In my opinion they have every right to keep the monetary system that they’ve got.. Or, if they choose to do so.. They can use the EURO…
Having said that.. There is a day coming when there will be a one world bank.. and a one world government…. and a one world currency… That day will be the beginning of the worst troubles the world has ever seen…
Not me and no matter where you went in the world you would have to exchange your money.
Yes! About time!
If Euro replaces the pound,
It’s still likely to be shiny and round
Rich may switch the way they feel rich
But not the man who’s alive, and the man who’s drowned
Keeping pound, only makes sense
If you’re worth more than 99 pence
Those who have a lot and those who have not
Remain francs, marks, pesetas and cents
If money is the root of all evil
What does that make lover of pound?
We’ll be eating frogs and modelling clogs
And you’ll be hunting French and Dutch with a hound
Now a nation goes to the vote
So our country has its name on the note
Same set of people, same boat
Need their name in the back of their coat
Head or tails, can’t have been won on
Whose head graced, whatever was spun.
If Queen’s head’s not on money they’ve got
It’s still business, and money’s still fun
If money is the root of all evil
What does that make lover of pound?
We’ll be eating frogs and modelling clogs
And you’ll be hunting French and Dutch with a hound
Now a nation goes to the vote
So our country has its name on the note
Same set of people, same boat
Need their name in the back of their coat
Now a nation goes to the vote
So our country has its name on the note
Same set of people, same boat
Need their name in the back of their coat
What do you mean, "primary currency"? There is only ONE currency in use use in the UK. It is the £.
I HATE THE EURO CURRENCY!!!!!!!! We’ve just swapped over in Cyprus and Im not impressed. I agree with Terry D, its like a loss of independence. There was nothing wrong with the Cypriot pound over here. Euros feel and look like monopoly money. I want the pound back. So NO I dont agree that UK should recognise it as its primary currency.
No way!!
Adopting the Euro would finally remove the last elements of self soverignty for the UK and lead to the creation of a United States of Europe.
The European Union is gradually taking over as the "real" government of the United Kingdom.
It’s influence (mainly for the worse) is everywhere, from the local shop (kilo’s only please, wer’e almost French), the criminal justice system (if you can get justice that is), through to our national borders (or lack of them).
As a nation, the UK gives away far more money to the EU, than it receives back. At present estimates, we give away some 40 BILLION more each year than we get back.
The Labour government has steadily given away more and more of our powers as a sovereign nation and is now trying to "sign off" on the EU constitution, without any form of consultation with it’s people. This constitution is one of the last measures required to form a single nation called the United States of Europe, at which time, the UK will effectively cease to exist as a sovereign nation. As with all things from New Labour, this is being done by stealth and deception.
Please don’t let them get away with it !!!
If you want to retain the independence of the the UK as a sovereign nation, click on the link below and sign up to petition or a referendum on the proposed EU constitution, rather than just standing by and allowing it to happen at the whim of Gordon Brown and without the consent of the people.

I’m sorry you have to keep having to change currency evry time you go to Europe. You must be a Euro MP.
No, we don’t want the euro in the UK. I remember when we changed to decimalisation, we got conned then with inflation, and the same would happen with the euro.
What we should do is get out of the EU. Thats why I vote UKIP.
Daveh, above is spot on.
NO WAY!
The pound is stronger than the Euro. Why the hell should we drag our economy down to the level of the poorest EU countries?
We have worked for our success. The UK is one of the strongest economies in the world. Why should we allow poorer countries in the EU to take it away from us? We are already providing jobs and benefits for half of their citizens because of the stupid free movement laws and the fact that these people see the UK as an easy target to make money quickly. If I had my way we’d pull out of the EU alltogether!
Britain for the Welsh, Scots and English!!!
I think we (Britain) should keep our own currency and not be bullied into changing to the Euro.
My Greek friends say it is the worst thing that their country ever did, everything is now more expensive than it used to be!
I’ll stick to the good old £ thank you very much.
JamesM hits the nail on the head. Decimalisation and the devaluing of the £ 1970′s by Harold Wilson. Overnigth halved the income of those that had retired at that time and prices shot up to crash down on those with low incomes. Disaster- the French loath the Euro, it had the same effect on devaluing the Franc. Price still today shown in many shops throughtout France in both values. Some say it has led to the very difficult economic situation France now faces.
Keep the Pound or its real name the Lumis Pundis. It was the FIRST single european currency and we should go back to it. If we join the worthless euro it gives more power to another nation to tell us how to run our lives… would you want this? I DON’T
the euro is the biggest con going mate just look at germany italy and france all of them have gotten more expencive since joining i do beleave that the uk should stay away from the euro
I sympathise with all Britons that want to keep the pound as their currency. Too bad though, that behind the scenes everything is done in Euro. The only difference is, that the people of the UK don´t hold it in their hands yet. Truth is, they have had it for several years, but have not realised it because their bills and coins read pound and penny.Wake up to reality.
Over my rotting carcass!!!! We are Britain, our currency is the pound, change it at your peril. Leave the EU forthwith, vote UKIP, the only party that has pledged to get us out of that totally corrupt institution whose only goal is a Federal States of Europe.
As for poor you having to change currency, be grateful you can still afford to travel so often, most of us can’t. My heart truly bleeds for you if that is all you have to concern yourself with. It’s a wind up right?
No way. If there’s one thing the populations of those countries who adopted it agree on it was the dramatic rise in prices on it’s introduction.
We had the same when we went from sterling to decimilisation.
With the way prices are in the UK at present and the constant rip off we can’t afford it.
NO………………..The euro is toilet paper.
