Now that the Pound Sterling has become so weak, what's the opinion of the British toward the Euro?
I remember a few years ago when my friend in London used to say they can buy whatever they want because they have a strong currency, and I also remember when the British protested fiercely against the adoption of the Euro at the beginning of the millennium.
Now that there is a crisis, while the Euro keeps its integrity, the lonely British Pound collapses, against all the odds.
Have the British sort of changed their mind by now?
As of today, it takes 1.03 Euros to buy 1 Pound.

Why change our mind? First sign of trouble and jump ship? Not really the way we seem to do things in Britain.
I wonder if the Euro-Zone wants the Brits to join at this time?
I think they will still keep there pound its not a big lead.
Still very much against it, the pound will recover and theres too many down sides to the Euro, like right now – Germany and Ireland need the opposite actions to recover ther economies most effectivly, but they have a central committe and can only take one course . . . not very effective in times of crisis methinks.
1.03?
hmmm i would like a million of either
would you like to buy more toxic sub prime mortgages from your mate and ally the USA?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
brits are so naive
The pound is not, and has never been about value against other currencies..
It is what gives our country its image. The pound is british and only british and this is why the people of britain have always been against converting to the euro.
I’m British but live in Spain so have used the Euro for the past 5 years and think that Britain should now think about joining.
They want to be part of Europe but don’t want to lose their individuality and therefore want to hold onto the GBP. If they want to be European then they have to embrace it, not pick and choose just how European they want to be.
Shove it mate. I’ll stick with the old quid. It’s gonna bounce back and be worth more than anything on the planet.
I hope they don’t, I can’t be bothered with using new money.
No, tradition
We still don’t want it.
This Brit hasn’t changed her mind. I will accept the euro over my rotting carcass ta very much.
This corrupt government is intent on us adopting the euro, the current crisis is grist to their mill, but those with any political insight can see what their game is.
It is "not against all the odds", it is as they planned for, and what they hope the Brits will fall for.
They haven’t got the b***s to give us our promised referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, preferring instead to lick Brussels a**e behind closed doors. The same tactic will not work with the euro.
We will ride out this recession regardless of government incompetence past and present, and I for one would take great pleasure in sticking the euro up the a**e of GB.
No ex-pat should be telling us what to do, you chose to leave so take the sneb out. Also do not generalise, most of us did not "choose" to be Europeans, the original concept was promoted as a trade agreement, (falsely) not what we have ended up as thanks to traitorous politicians of all persuasions.
Whilst this brit has been pro Europe and pro the euro since it’s birth the sad fact of the matter is regardless of what Britain wants or does not want we can not join the euro as the pound is too week.
But as Brits we need to remove our heads from our own a**holes and realise that it is not just down to us when and if we join.
The sooner we realise that and join it the stronger we become and the better our way of life becomes.
I dont need a £5 note in my pocket to know I am a Brit and feel sorry for those that do!!! You can pay me in what ever you want as long as I can buy the same goods.
The pound is far to weak.
To late to join, sorry the uk is not welcome anymore.
keep the pound, we are happy with the euro.
No,
We don’t want the Euro.
We will be in the Euro in the next three months.
The lower the Euro/Pound exchange the cheaper the banks buy our sterling from us, banks bought at 1.46 sell to us at sub 1.00,plenty of plunder in the banks vault, we get screwed again!
With a lousy Euro/ Pound exchange rate European goods are too expensive, so we keep buying Chinese, banks keep exchange business they get richer, UK industry continues in decline, we get screwed again!
When will the Government realise they are responsible for the whole Nation and not just the Banks and themselves?
Britain will be begging the EU for the euro in the not so distant future.
Stay out of it the pound will recover
Britain doesn’t want the euro and won’t probably wanted for a while, let’s take a look a this hypothetical scenarios:
scenario 1: Pound recovers, UK struggles but handle the crisis as America recovers, the euro dramatically fails in the next few years, Italy and other screwed countries such as Spain, Portugal and Greece that aren’t prepared for the crisis and have no strong industries and weak governments, go back to their old currencies and literally lead a miserable life like third world countries. Germany and Scandinavia the best places to live.
scenario 2: The Pound dies, UK government joins the euro, the euro looses strength anyways and the american dollar recovers. In this case you won’t want to live in Europe for a while.
scenario 3: WW3 we are all screwed!
Today’s latest poll – 71% oppose introducing the euro in the UK. I am one of them – read it and weep, europhiles!
I still want to keep the pound. Why? Because the Euro is expensive, when I went to France a bottle of water cost €3 it might not seem much, but when you convert it to your own currency (in this case the pound) it was very expensive.
Do you think anybody would pay around £3 for a bottle of water? When I went to France the Pound was a lot stronger than the Euro so it would’ve been considerably more.
