I’m looking at forex.com, which I’ve seen advertised on TV, and dukascopy.com, which I found after reading a bunch of reviews. I’m new to Forex and don’t want to get screwed over…are either (or both) of these sites good to use? Are there others I should be looking at?
Thanks for the answers so far. Just to clarify, my biggest concern is the legitimacy of the broker. I’ve heard stories about sites that are scams…they don’t execute orders, they intentionally freeze the software when you’re trying to make a trade, etc. I’ve also heard that some are even reluctant to let you withdraw money when you ask for it. That’s what I want to avoid.

I’d like to get my taxes done as early as humanly possible this year, but I’d like to know when that’s realistically possible. I attended a public college that needs to send me tuition costs and also a forex broker who also needs to send me trading info. How late into the new year does it take before you get all your papers mailed to you?

I recently made a deposit to this forex broker etoro (or e-toro) and my firewall gave me several warnings that a suspicious application (etoro) was trying to steal my details just as I was making a Paypal payment. If anyone gets my Paypal password, isn’t this dangerous? Is etoro a scam? What do they need Paypal passwords for?

I was content with the small Gold vs USD trades I could make on the OANDA currency trading platform. They offered 20:1 or 30:1 leverage, and no commission (just larger spreads).
Now OANDA and other FOREX brokers have announced that they must exit their metals products courtesy of Barney Frank.
Are there any good alternatives for small investors? Maybe foreign brokers?
OK, first we will vote for Weeks as the dummy for failing to understand the question.
Next I’ll point out that none of the other suggestions have been anywhere near as convenient as the OANDA / Forex approach of trading gold. Also, most don’t seem to provide much leverage or offer the opportunity to short gold.
As to the penny-pincher who pointed out the obvious that spreads are similar to commissions, all I can say is that it has been an easy way to make money for me, so go try it for awhile before exclaiming.
I’ll have to look into the Dukascopy account, but something tells me that it won’t be easy as a US resident.
Barring that, I think the best choice will be to look for some mini commodities trading accounts. I’m sure that will be a commission quagmire, though.

If you had a Forex a managed account, and the returns were above average, would you consider sharing the profits 50/50 with the trader?

I’m planning on opening a forex trading account, and have done a lot of research and have finally decided between the following brokers: FXCM, FxPro, AVAfx. I was just wondering if anyone whose actually used any of these brokers or is an fx trader could give me a bit of first hand input on the platform reliability and functionality and customer service. thank you.

What I mean is do they take our (traders) capital and invest it in a recognized stock exchange and earn with the differential between the price or they buy or sell with their own capital?

I have done a lot of research learning about the forex market and how everything works. i want to open a demo account, but have no idea what broker to start with. i have heard many brokers have demo accounts that are nothing like their live accounts, and I dont want to waste my time on a demo that is not going to prepare me for live trading. I tried FXCM a few months ago but i just found out their was a class action lawsuit filed against FXCM and so that has scared me away. I am looking for a reliable dealer with a realistic demo account. i plan on doing longer term trades or swing trading, but i am not sure how that will factor into which broker i should use.

Had a Traditional IRA account that ended up being a fake managed forex investment. It was literally stolen (many investors involved). The FBI arrested the creep in April. Is there a way of deducting that loss or is that just considered a bad investment, never to be seen again? I had formally complained before he was grabbed, but I don’t know how one collects on that, if at all. (head hangs low)
I was under the impression that a real investment loss in an IRA could not be claimed unless all IRAs were liquidated. Is a theft loss from an IRA different than that?
Thank you all. The funds to this IRA (a fraction of the total) were deductible. The theft was real (crook caught) and I suspect I may never see another cent of that, about the value of a new Corolla. So I chalk this up to experience. I was hoping a deliberate theft would be worth more than an investment loss. Guess not.

Since I must chose a winner, I have to go with Tax Lady – she was first. But you were all helpful. Thanks for your time.

ok this is regarding the forex market.ive read a lot about how forex brokers dont like theyre clients winning so much from proffesional investors..but they never say why.a person who keeps on winning will likely build their capital and probably trade at a greater volume. this greater volume will give the brokers a bigger cut of money due to the bid/ask spread……so why dont they like this then.does it cost them a lot to procces the transaction or something…any opinions would be appreciated

I all ready practice stock and foreign exchange (forex) trading and would like to also teach myself how to trade commodities by practicing. However, I have been unable to find a decent site where I can practice with a broker. If you could point me in the direction of one preferably with a trading platform I can download or log onto would be great. Thanks.

Hi,
I am on the road a lot – travelling between the UK, Canada and USA. My base for now, is the UK, but I may move back home to Canada in a year.
Looking to get into starting trading in Forex – is FXCM a good broker for someone in my situation? I have tried their free demo and am satisfied. If I decide to go back to Canada, will it be much of a transition with this broker? they seem stable, and I would like to not have to switch brokers just for the reason of moving.
Thanks,

I am planning to be the Forex broker. Any suggestion is acceptable.

Is there such a thing?
Like, what if I have in the account and the profit goes negative to let’s say -. Will the broker automatically sell it or am allowed to keep it until it goes back up? Will I have to pay the broker the difference of ?
